The Most Beautiful 5-Star Hotels in Mauritius – Northern Region
The northern coast of Mauritius is one of the most sought-after areas on the island for its high-end ambiance and dreamy beaches.
It’s a particularly touristy area and also very “Europeanized“. Many expatriates live there. You’ll find numerous trendy restaurants and bars, boutiques, shopping centers, and prestigious hotels along the waterfront.
The North is also home to a concentration of some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, most of which are family-friendly and lively.
There aren’t really any natural excursions in the North. It’s mostly about enjoying the white sand and turquoise waters, shopping, and dining out.
Here are the must-see visits and activities in this area:
- The beaches, of course! Whether it’s for relaxation or water sports. Among the most beautiful beaches to see are Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy, Cap Malheureux, Peyrébère, and the charming little La Cuvette beach.
- The catamaran cruise to the Northern islets: this is a must-do boat trip when staying in Northern Mauritius. Spend a full day on a comfortable sailboat discovering 3 wild islets: Flat Island, Coin de Mire, and Gabriel Island. The excursion includes lunch on board, snorkeling breaks, and stops on the small islands. You can alreadybook your spot by clicking here.
- Scuba diving: the waters north of Mauritius are teeming with exceptional dive sites. For your first dive or an exploratory dive, I recommend the Sunset Diving center (located right in the center of Grand Baie on Sunset Boulevard).
- Visiting Port-Louis: staying in the North gives you a great opportunity to discover the capital of Mauritius and immerse yourself in authentic local life. The best way to see everything and not get lost is to opt for this gastronomic guided tour, which also lets you taste the best local specialties.
- Labourdonnais Castle: If you enjoy cultural visits, this is a great one to do about 20 minutes from Grand Baie. You can tour this former colonial residence from the 19th century. The visit includes the house, gardens, and orchards and ends with a tasting of rum, juices, and fruit pastes produced on-site.
- The Pamplemousses Garden: Botanical enthusiasts will also appreciate touring the largest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere. A hallmark of Mauritius, this stunning garden showcases an impressive number of plants from all corners of the globe. I recommend the guided tour (only an extra 2€ per person).

5-Star Hotels on Mauritius’ West Coast – The Most Beautiful Ones
The West Coast of Mauritius is no slouch when it comes to opulent 5-star hotels where you can experience a paradisiacal stay.
These luxurious establishments line the lagoon near Flic-en-Flac, the main seaside resort of the region.
Staying on the West Coast, you’ll get to enjoy the beaches, trendy restaurants, and the wild Mauritian nature. You’ll be ideally located to discover the island’s most beautiful natural spots: nature reserves, hiking trails, and mountains to climb.
Here are the must-see attractions and activities in the West of Mauritius:
- Visit Black River Gorges National Park: it’s the largest and richest nature reserve in the country. Amidst tropical forest, rivers, and waterfalls, you can traverse the hiking paths to immerse yourself in this preserved nature and encounter a plethora of endemic species. To prepare for your visit, I invite you to read my dedicated article right here.
- Set sail to meet dolphins and whales: between May and October, you might have the chance to observe migrating whales during this boat excursion. And all year round, you can watch the dance of the dolphins. Be sure to choose a provider that respects the animals and does not chase and stress them. I recommend this one.
- Hike the 7 Cascades: this is one of the most stunning hikes in Mauritius. You’ll discover a series of impressive waterfalls and natural pools where you can refresh yourself in a spectacular setting. This excursion must be done with a guide, which you can book by clicking this link.
- Stroll on Flic-en-Flac Beach: an essential spot, this long white sandy beach lined with casuarina trees is the busiest on the West Coast. Lazy beach days, swimming, snorkeling, tasting snacks and fresh fruit sold by local vendors… Flic-en-Flac Beach promises some great times!
- Admire the multicolored fish: At Flic-en-Flac and in Tamarin Bay, diving and snorkeling enthusiasts will be delighted by the crystal clear water and the variety of fish and other creatures inhabiting the lagoon. For an introductory dive or an unforgettable exploration dive, it’s the ideal spot.

5-Star Hotels in Mauritius – The Most Beautiful Establishments on the East Coast
Choosing to stay on the East coast of Mauritius allows you to soak up its authentic charm, still sheltered from mass tourism.
Often considered the most beautiful region in the country, it offers a tranquil escape for those seeking a peaceful vacation, away from the hustle and bustle.
Though you’re a bit removed from the island’s main attractions, its rejuvenating natural setting more than compensates (even though in Mauritius, the concept of distance is relative due to the island’s small size).
In the East, here are the must-do visits and activities:
- Cruise to Île aux Cerfs: by catamaran or speedboat, this is a must-do outing during a stay on the East coast. Île aux Cerfs, a small paradise island off the coast of Trou d’Eau Douce, invites you for a half-day getaway. Once ashore, bask on the immaculate white sands facing the lagoon, try water sports, take a walk, or enjoy the shops and restaurants. The full-day catamaran cruise to Île aux Cerfs is very popular. It includes a trip from the coast to the islet, several snorkeling stops, breakfast on board, and a barbecue lunch on the beach. Book your experience now by clicking here.
- Thrilling water activities: the East Coast of Mauritius is also the perfect place for lovers of water sports and adrenaline. Parasailing is a top attraction in Belle Mare and on Île aux Cerfs. Not to forget water skiing, tube riding, and many more. You’ll even have the opportunity to try the underwater walk at Aquaventure, a unique experience that allows you to walk on the sea bed, with your head dry in a helmet.
- Scuba diving: diving enthusiasts will be delighted by the beauty and richness of the seabed in this region. The Belle Mare lagoon is among the most well-preserved in Mauritius, and several centers offer diving initiations and exploration dives. I’ll give you more details here.
- Visiting Bras d’Eau National Park: looking for some greenery? To change from the beaches, consider spending half a day visiting this little-known forest reserve amongst tourists. By following the hiking trails, you’ll traverse untouched landscapes and discover the local fauna and flora.
I give you all the detailed information to help you prepare your stay on the East coast of Mauritius in my other articles below:
I have selected for you the best 5-star hotels in Mauritius on the East Coast:
Constance Prince Maurice – Double room from €300 in low season/€650 in high season
It’s one of the most prestigious hotels on the island. The Constance Prince is unanimously praised for its exceptional setting and luxurious suites and villas.

The facilities are remarkable with some villas set on stilts, offering breathtaking panoramas.
The hotel is also popular for its secluded beautiful beaches, its floating restaurant (Le Barachois), and its splendid terraces.
As for activities, you can choose from windsurfing sessions, snorkeling excursions, glass-bottom boat trips, and even helicopter rides!
One&Only Le St Géran – From €870 per night for 2 people
If you’re searching for a 5-star hotel in Mauritius at Bellemare, the One&Only Le Saint Géran is undoubtedly the most idyllic one.

The suites have a beautiful outdoor living area. The spacious marble bathrooms come with a dressing area, a bathtub, and a separate shower. Some suites even include a private pool and a dedicated butler service available 24/7.
Lined by crystal-clear waters, the property gives access to a magnificent crescent moon-shaped beach. You’ll also enjoy its 2 large pools, the spa, the gym, and the 5 gourmet restaurants.

Lastly, there’s another 5-star hotel in the East of Mauritius, aptly named La Maison d’Eté. It’s located at Poste Lafayette along a stunning private beach.
If you’re one to avoid large hotel complexes, you’ll be delighted by this intimate establishment with only about fifteen rooms.
Featuring a terrace or balcony, these rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated in a sophisticated natural style. The setting is sublime with an exceptional view of the lagoon, in a peaceful environment.
La Maison d’Eté provides a family atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff.
In addition to the beach and the beautiful rooms, you will enjoy the 2 outdoor pools, the spa, and the delicious dishes served in the hotel’s 2 restaurants. Various activities are also offered on-site, like canoeing and snorkeling.

Travel Insurance for Mauritius: My Advice
Many travelers mistakenly think that healthcare in Mauritius is affordable and that they do not need travel insurance. But in reality, the public healthcare system is fragile and even the simplest consultation at a private clinic can be very expensive!
That’s why it’s essential to have travel insurance with good medical coverage before leaving.
For a safe trip, I recommend the following two insurance options (both including epidemic coverage – such as for COVID-19, which is very important!)
To sign up, it’s very simple, just click on the orange links below:
- ACS AMI Globe Partner: Medical insurance and repatriation
- Assur Travel Summum: Premium insurance (medical, repatriation, luggage theft, flight delay, cancellation, and more!)
