The Most Beautiful Beaches in North Mauritius
1. Trou aux Biches Beach
Let’s start with a must-visit beach on the North coast of Mauritius: Trou aux Biches Beach!
It’s the archetype of a dream beach with its fine white sand and coconut trees facing a turquoise lagoon.
This long beach, right out of the most beautiful postcards, is lined with several hotels and a nautical club that offers boat rides.
The water is shallow and clear, ideal for swimming, including with family!
At Trou aux Biches Beach you can indulge in various types of water activities:
- sailing
- water-skiing
- glass-bottom boat trips
- stand-up paddle boarding
- pedalo
Where to park at Trou aux Biches Beach?
At the entrance to the public beach, a small dirt parking lot is available for leaving your car.
Nearby, you will find several snack carts offering fresh fruits and snacks to enjoy by the sea.
Once on the beach, don’t hesitate to head towards the right and walk up to where the hotels are to find more tranquility.
Where to stay near Trou aux Biches Beach?
If you wish to stay close to the stunning Trou aux Biches Beach, you can book a room at the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, a sublime hotel located right on the beach!
You will stay in a gorgeous suite with a sitting area and modern bathroom. The hotel also features 6 restaurants offering various international cuisines, a wellness center for massages, a gym, several pools, a kids’ club, and a large tropical garden.
Expect to pay around 300€ per night for a double room, breakfast included.

2. Mont Choisy Beach
Another idyllic beach to visit in the north of Mauritius is Mont Choisy Beach!
This long stretch of white sand is more untouched than the previous one and continues from Trou aux Biches, further north.
Its advantage is being away from the road. Indeed, you have to cross a small “forest” of casuarina trees before reaching it.
Which means it’s particularly quiet and still well-preserved.
The presence of trees close to the sand makes it easy to find a shady spot to settle down.
Mont Choisy Beach is very beautiful and not very crowded. It’s the perfect beach if you’re looking for a peaceful and tranquil place to enjoy the lagoon.
Where to Park at Mont Choisy Beach?
There’s no problem finding parking at Mont Choisy, as there’s a large car park right at the entrance. It’s just a few meters’ walk to reach the beach from there.
Where to Stay Near Mont Choisy Beach?
Would you like to stay in Mont Choisy during your trip to Mauritius? In that case, I recommend Mystik Life Style hotel which is situated along the beach and offers a sublime view of the lagoon. Expect to pay a minimum of 115€ for a double room with balcony (breakfast included).
Among the most beautiful places to stay near Mont Choisy Beach, I also recommend:
- Flowers of Paradise Residence: a charming small hotel offering spacious and comfortable double rooms with sea views starting from 178€ per night.
- Mon Choisy Beach R Hotel: a complex overlooking the beach, where you can stay in a fully-equipped individual studio with direct access to a beautiful garden. The hotel has a large swimming pool and a lovely terrace for breakfast with a magnificent view. Count less than 100€ per night for a studio with double bed.
3. Cap Malheureux Beach
If you like atypical places with a poetic atmosphere, you’ll adore Cap Malheureux Beach!
It’s one of the most iconic spots in Mauritius, with its famous bright red-roofed church contrasting against the blue of the sky and the sea.
Cap Malheureux Beach isn’t really a swimming spot; it’s more of a beach where people come to relax, take a break, and admire the sublime view over the lagoon and the islets offshore.
To the right of the church, clusters of black volcanic rocks punctuate the shoreline, providing a habitat for little crabs and shells.
You can wade in the shallow crystal-clear water and walk on the rocks, then head left to step out onto the jetty.
Don’t hesitate to walk along the left side in an arc, bordered on one side by stunning villas and on the other by colorful little boats.
Cap Malheureux Beach is not crowded, offering peace and tranquility.
A beach with an incredible charm that I especially love!
You might even come across bridal couples during your visit. Many choose this location for their photo shoots.
Where to Park at Cap Malheureux Beach?
Arriving by the coastal road, you can park in the small dirt lot next to the small green-roofed building.
There are not many spaces available, but if it’s full, you can also park along the wall that borders the road on the left.
Where to Stay Near Cap Malheureux?
For a dream stay in Mauritius near Cap Malheureux, Coin de Mire Attitude hotel is the place to be.
It is located less than 2km from the red church beach and sits right opposite the Coin de Mire islet.
The spacious and modern double room with terrace starts at 120€ per night. The hotel offers direct access to Bain Bœuf Beach, has 2 swimming pools, a large tropical garden, a spa, and a kids’ club.
If you want to stay close to Cap Malheureux Beach, I also recommend:
- Cape Point Seafront Suites & Penthouse: luxurious individual homes on the Cap Malheureux coast, nestled in the heart of a stunning residence with views of the lagoon, pool, large terrace, and tropical garden. Prices start at 220€ for 2 people and 260€ for 4 people (3-bedroom house). Breakfast is an additional 14€.
- Le Cap Heureux: family guest house located less than 1km from the beach of Cap Malheureux. You’ll stay in a nice comfortable apartment suited for 3 people, with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. Prices start from 69€ per night.

4. Belle Mare Beach
I’m now taking you to the East Coast, home to the not-to-be-missed Belle Mare Beach.
Spanning about 10km, it’s ranked among Mauritius’s most beautiful beaches and is also one of the most pristine.
The beach still exudes a wild atmosphere due to the absence of big developments (save for some discreet villas and hotels).
You won’t have any trouble finding a secluded spot to lay down your towel, under the shade of casuarina trees or directly on the immaculate white sand.
Belle Mare is an essential visit during your time on the East coast of Mauritius, where you can rejuvenate with the incredibly blue and transparent water.
Don’t forget to bring your mask and snorkel! Belle Mare Beach is perfect for snorkeling.
And if you head towards the hotels, you can also try various water activities such as:
- parasailing
- water skiing
- towed tubing
- and many others!
Where to park at Belle Mare Beach?
Coming via the coastal road, you’ll find a large parking area at the entrance to the beach.
You simply need to walk a few meters through the casuarinas to reach the sand.
Where to stay near Belle Mare Beach?
If you want to wake up in the morning facing the beautiful lagoon of Belle Mare, you can book a room at the prestigious Constance Hotel, located directly on the beach.
It stretches over 2km of private beach, dotted with charming thatched pavilions for lounging. The hotel has 4 pools, a golf course, tropical gardens, and several restaurants. Expect to pay at least 200€ per night for a spacious and modern double room (breakfast included).
For more information and booking click here.
For a budget-friendly stay at Belle Mare, I recommend Eden Villa, which is just a 5-minute walk from the beach. You’ll be staying in a comfortable double room for about 70€/night. The hotel has 2 pools and often organizes concerts and evening entertainment. To book your room, simply click here!
If you plan to stay near Belle Mare or spend time there during your trip to Mauritius, I’ve prepared a complete article about the region: What to do and see in Belle Mare?
5. Île aux Cerfs Beach
Wondering where to swim in Mauritius? Île aux Cerfs should definitely be on your itinerary!
A trip to Île aux Cerfs is a must-do activity during your stay in Mauritius.
This small piece of paradise is located less than 1km off the East coast. Shuttle boats run back and forth every day from Trou d’Eau Douce beach or the pier.
Surrounded by white sand and a deep blue lagoon with crystal clear waters, Île aux Cerfs boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius!
This small island consists of 2 islets separated by a sandbar. Shuttles usually land on the southern part, where you’ll find shops, restaurants, and a golf course.
Along the beach, you can rent umbrellas and loungers.
For a more authentic and peaceful beach spot, you can walk to the northern part of Île aux Cerfs, or ask the boat captain to drop you off on that side.
It’s not uncommon to encounter no one on this side of the island: it feels like being on a secluded paradise island!
You’ll have fine sand and the turquoise lagoon all to yourself, for a timeless moment to savor.

For the closest stay to Île aux Cerfs, I recommend the stunning Shangri-La Le Touessrok hotel.
Located in Trou d’Eau Douce bay, directly opposite Île aux Cerfs, this luxurious property offers beautiful suites with ocean views.
The hotel includes several pools, 5 restaurants, a wellness center, and even a private island (Îlot Mangénie) for the guests’ exclusive use.
Guests at Shangri-La Le Touessrok also have access to Île aux Cerfs’ golf course.

The Most Beautiful Beaches in the South of Mauritius
6. Flic-en-Flac Beach
Now, let’s move on to the most beautiful beaches to see in the South of the island!
Among them, one you simply can’t miss during your holidays in Mauritius: Flic-en-Flac Beach!
Stretching over more than 10km and lined with casuarina trees, it’s the iconic beach of the West coast.
It attracts a lot of people, both locals and tourists.
Things to do at Flic-en-Flac beach:
- Relaxing in the shade of the filaos trees
- Sunbathing on the white sands
- Tasting snacks and fruits sold by the many nearby food trucks
- Snorkeling
- Scuba diving
- Boat rides
To find out all about things to do in Flic en Flac and the surroundings, I invite you to read my complete article on the subject: What to do in Flic en Flac?
Where to park at Flic-en-Flac beach?
Access is very easy. The beach offers several parking areas spread all along its length.
Where to stay in Flic-en-Flac?
For a luxury stay in Flic-en-Flac, you can book a room at La Pirogue, located on the white sand beach.
This sublime hotel, characterized by its thatched roof suites, allows you to enjoy a luxurious environment between the sea and green gardens.
The rooms are spacious, bright, and beautifully decorated.
Count on around 380€ per night for a bungalow with a King-size bed (breakfast included).

Here you’ll find comfortable double rooms with a bathroom and kitchenette starting from 55€ per night, in a pleasant residence with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, and large terrace. Flic-en-Flac beach is only 1.5km away.
7. Pointe d’Esny Beach
During your visit to Mahébourg in the Southeast of Mauritius, do not miss Pointe d’Esny Beach.
It’s one of my favorites in Mauritius, especially for its incredibly clear water. I’ve rarely seen such crystal-clear seas!
Snorkeling enthusiasts will find paradise here, with perfect visibility and plenty of little fish.
Still relatively unknown and thus well-preserved, this small beach hidden behind villas offers a peaceful and tranquil setting.
The water is shallow for several meters, making it ideal for swimming, despite some waves and a slight current.
However, here you’ll find just sand and no trees for shade from the sun, so remember the umbrella, or at least sunscreen!
Where to park for Pointe d’Esny Beach?
The beach is not clearly indicated from the road. To find it, reach the small village of Pointe d’Esny and follow the coastal road (Coastal Road).
Look out for the sign “Pedestrian Access to the Beach,” which will be on your right if you’re coming from Mahébourg.
Near the sign, you can park along the roadside, by the walls of the houses.
Then follow the sign on foot to find the beach access, a small sandy path nestled between two tall villa walls.
Where to stay near Pointe d’Esny Beach?
To wake up facing the sublime Pointe d’Esny Beach during your stay in Mauritius, I recommend the accommodation Sablexotique.
Ideal for a holiday in Mauritius with family or friends, this sea view apartment includes 3 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 8 people.
It is spacious, very comfortable, well-decorated and also includes a pool, garden, and terrace. All starting at 215€ per day.
For more information and to book, it’s right here!
I also had the chance to stay for a weekend at La Case Mama, a charming little guest house located right on Pointe d’Esny beach. I slept in a small thatched-roof “case”, minimalist and cozy!
It was really great! I recommend it for an authentic homestay experience. Visit their official site to book.
8. Le Morne Beach
The majestic Le Morne Beach awaits you in the Southwest of Mauritius.
Overlooked by the Morne Brabant mountain, it features a wide stretch of fine white sand lined with pine and coconut trees, facing a crystal-clear sea.
This beach is unique as it is located on a peninsula, right at the foot of the mountain.
You’ll quickly understand why it’s rated among the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius!
Despite its great beauty, it is far less crowded than the beaches in the North or Flic-en-Flac, for instance, adding even more to its authentic charm!
Le Morne Beach offers a dreamy setting that you can enjoy before or after climbing Morne Brabant, to recharge your batteries!

9. La Prairie Beach
About a 10-minute drive from Le Morne Beach, La Prairie is another spectacular beach to visit in Mauritius.
You’ll find it along the coastal road between Morne and the village of Baie du Cap.
This vast and wild beach has a large grassy area, from which it gets its name.
From the beach, you can enjoy an unmatched view of the Morne mountain and the lagoon.
La Prairie is also the starting point for seaplane tours that offer a bird’s-eye view of the outsanding underwater waterfall of Mauritius!
Where to Park at La Prairie Beach?
La Prairie is a wild beach where you won’t find many people, and you won’t have any trouble finding a spot to park your car. There is a large parking area that makes parking easy right in front of the sea.
Where to Stay Near La Prairie Beach?

Accommodation for two, with a bedroom, living area, bathroom, and terrace with sea view starts from 74€ per night, breakfast included.
10. Saint Felix Beach
Now I’m going to talk about a rather secret beach, because it undoubtedly belongs to the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius. It is even often considered as the most beautiful beach in the entire Southern part of the island!
Saint-Felix Beach isn’t very well-known, but its beauty is absolutely stunning.
You definitely have to see it during your holidays in Mauritius!
The fact that it’s not very crowded greatly contributes to its appeal, as it helps to maintain an authentic wild beauty.
Split into two small sections, it’s surrounded by lush vegetation that beautifully contrasts with the azure blue sea and the white sand.
A true little slice of paradise for those seeking intimacy.
You will find Saint-Félix Beach near the village of Chemin Grenier, in the far south of the island, between Bel Ombre and Souillac.
There are 2 reasons why St Félix doesn’t attract crowds:
- it is located in a less touristy area, still spared by large hotel complexes
- swimming is not recommended there due to strong currents and numerous corals. So be careful!
Where to Park at Saint Félix Beach?
The beach has a rear parking lot, accessible via the B9 coastal road. It’s never full, so you will definitely find a spot.
Where to Stay Near Saint Félix Beach?
As I mentioned, there are not many tourist facilities around Saint Félix Beach (and luckily so!).
Except for the sumptuous Shanti Resort & Spa!
If you wish to stay close to this heavenly beach, I recommend this 5-star establishment set in a magnificent setting. You can sleep in a luxury villa or suite, starting from €270 for two persons.
11. Gris Gris Beach
Let’s wrap up this guide to Mauritius’ most beautiful beaches with a beach that’s different from the others: Gris Gris, located at the very south of the country near the village of Souillac.
Gris Gris isn’t a beach for swimming in Mauritius, but rather a beach to behold.
It offers a spectacular landscape, quite different from the usual sights on the Mauritian coast.
In this area, there’s no reef, resulting in a tumultuous sea and waves that crash right onto the sand and at the foot of the cliffs!
Gris Gris Beach is mesmerizing, reminiscent of the landscapes of Brittany. You can admire it from above, then descend the stairs to reach the sand and dip your feet in the water.
Be warned, swimming is dangerous and the waves can be surprising!
Continuing east along the cliff, you’ll come across the famous “Roche qui Pleure” or “Weeping Rock”.
This part of the cliff juts out into the sea and is constantly battered by waves. As a result, water streams down the rock face, as though it were shedding tears!
Gris Gris Beach is an incredibly unique and spectacular spot in Mauritius, and without a doubt one of the island’s most beautiful beaches.
Where to Park at Gris Gris Beach?
Once in Souillac, take the street that turns left towards the sea, opposite the Dreamprice supermarket.
Continue straight ahead until you reach the parking area overlooking the beach.
Where to Stay Near Gris Gris Beach?
If you’re looking for accommodation close to Gris Gris Beach, I recommend Affa Tourist Residence. The decor is typical and the apartment is well equipped, clean, and comfortable. It’s only 1.2km from the beach.
Apart from that, there are not many hotels in this part of the island. If you’re keen on staying in the south of Mauritius, you could stay a bit further away in the Mahébourg area, which is about 40 minutes from Gris Gris.
Boat Rental in Mauritius
Do you want to rent a boat during your stay in Mauritius to explore the lagoon in the best conditions?
Great idea!
To rent your boat in Mauritius, I recommend going through Samboat! They offer a wide selection of vessels (motorboats, sailboats, catamarans…) in different regions of the island, at attractive prices and with impeccable service.
To discover the boat rental offers in Mauritius, you simply need to click on the button below:
Car Rental in Mauritius
To explore all of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius, you’re going to need a car!
It’s the most convenient way to move around freely, go wherever you want, and plan your road trip in Mauritius!
Indeed, don’t even think about catching buses in Mauritius: the trips are endless, uncomfortable, and you’re going to waste a lot of time.
The best is to rent a car for the duration of your vacation.
A tip: when renting a vehicle, avoid at all costs the small individual rental agencies. When it comes to insurance in case of damage (not to mention the scams), it’s really not advisable, and it would be a shame to spoil your stay for such reasons.
What I recommend for your car rental in Mauritius is to go through Booking Cars.
In my opinion, it’s the best provider and I always use them for my trips.
With Booking Cars you’re sure to be able to:
- compare prices easily for all car rental offers in Mauritius
- benefit from a comprehensive insurance protection
- receive a quick reimbursement in case of any issues
- be able to cancel your reservation for free until the last moment.
They are really serious, available, and their service is impeccable. Plus, if you find a cheaper rate elsewhere, they will refund the difference!
To compare offers and find your car rental in Mauritius it’s very simple, you just need to click below:
Travel Insurance for Mauritius: My Advice
Many travelers mistakenly think that healthcare in Mauritius is affordable and they don’t need travel insurance. But in reality, the public health system is fragile and even a minor private clinic visit is very expensive!
This is why it’s essential to take out travel insurance before you leave that offers good medical coverage.
To travel safely, I recommend the following two insurances (both include epidemic guarantee – such as Covid-19 -, very important!)
To subscribe, it’s very simple, you just need to click on the orange links below:
- ACS AMI Globe Partner: Medical insurance and repatriation
- Assur Travel Summum: Premium insurance (medical, repatriation, luggage theft, flight delay, cancellation and more!)
