Where to Stay in the North of Mauritius?
The North coast of Mauritius is one of the island’s most lively and touristic regions.
The North is a great choice for where to stay in Mauritius, whether it’s for your entire stay or just a few days.
By choosing accommodation in the North of Mauritius, you will be close to the most beautiful beaches of the island such as:
- Trou aux Biches beach
- Mont Choisy beach
- Peyrébère beach
- Cap Malheureux beach
Staying at a hotel on the northern coast of Mauritius also means being near Grand Baie, where the majority of the shops, trendy clubs, and restaurants are located.
The north is also the ideal region for practicing water sports in Mauritius such as:
- Scuba diving
- Snorkeling
- Pedal boats, sea kayaking, paddleboarding…
- And boat cruises, including the famous catamaran excursion to the Northern islets, which I highly recommend! Click the button below to learn more and book your spot:
In short, you won’t run out of things to do in this part of the island!
For even more ideas on what to do along the North Coast and nearby, check out this article: What to do in the Grand Baie area?
The beaches of Mauritius’ North Coast are dotted with luxurious hotels more sumptuous than the next, but you’ll also find smaller “boutique hotels” that are more affordable and welcoming bed and breakfasts.
Here’s my selection of the best accommodations in Northern Mauritius:

Where to Stay on the West Coast of Mauritius?
The West Coast is another must-visit resort area in Mauritius (along with the North).
The most touristy area is around Flic-en-Flac, known for its wide white sand beach, trendy restaurants, and nightclubs.
The Western region of Mauritius is famous for its beaches as well as for its exceptional natural sites, including the Black River Gorges National Park, Chamarel, and the Tamarind Falls.
Staying on the West Coast of Mauritius is therefore the perfect choice for both enjoying the beaches:
- the Flic-en-Flac beach, vast and lively
- the Preneuse beach, a small family-friendly slice of paradise
- the Wolmar beach, where you can witness the island’s most beautiful sunsets!
and for hiking:
- in the Black River Gorges Park
- at the Tamarind Falls (also called: the 7 Waterfalls hike)
- at Morne Brabant (climb to the top with an exceptional panorama on arrival!)

Where to Stay on the East Coast of Mauritius?
The East Coast is the perfect place to stay in Mauritius if you’re looking for peace and tranquility.
More wild and preserved than the north and the west, many consider the East to be the most beautiful region of the island.
And it’s true that with its turquoise lagoon, its lagoons, and its vast stretches of white sandy beaches, it’s quite captivating.
Among the iconic places on the East Coast of Mauritius, you’ve surely already heard of Bellemare or Île aux Cerfs, which are the most famous.
By staying on the East Coast of Mauritius, you’ll have the pleasure of enjoying dreamy beaches such as those at:

Travel Insurance for Mauritius: My Advice
Many travelers wrongly believe that healthcare in Mauritius is affordable and that they don’t need travel insurance. But in reality, the public healthcare system is fragile and even the most minor consultation in a private clinic can be very expensive!
That’s why it’s essential to get a travel insurance with good medical coverage before you go.
To travel safely, I recommend the following two insurances (both include epidemic coverage – like for Covid-19, which is very important!)
Sign-up is very simple, just click on the orange links below:
- ACS AMI Globe Partner: Medical insurance and repatriation
- Assur Travel Summum: Premium insurance (medical, repatriation, baggage theft, flight delay, cancellation, and more!)
That’s the end of this guide on the best places to stay in Mauritius. I hope it helps you plan your trip and create an amazing holiday discovering Mauritius in the best conditions!
