Why Choose Mauritius for Your Honeymoon?
There’s a good reason why Mauritius attracts so many lovers and honeymooners every year. The island’s idyllic scenery makes it an extremely romantic destination!
The beaches of Mauritius are certainly among the main attractions. White sand, turquoise lagoons and crystal-clear water: what could be better for a romantic escape?
Combine this with mountains, lush forests, waterfalls and picturesque villages, Mauritius has everything to ensure an exciting and diverse honeymoon.
Another reason why newlyweds choose Mauritius is the island’s perfect climate. The sunshine is almost guaranteed year-round, the temperatures are always pleasant, and you can enjoy the sea in any season!
An additional bonus of honeymooning in Mauritius: its exceptional accommodations!
Here you can choose from:
- Luxury hotels, some ranked among the most beautiful in the world, perfect for couples seeking ultimate pampering
- High-end eco-lodges for nature lovers
- Or charming guesthouses if you’re looking for a touch of authenticity.
Finally, the warm Mauritian hospitality is one more reason to choose Mauritius for your honeymoon. Here you will always be greeted with a smile and can rely on the kindness of your hosts to make your trip even more magical.
In short, Mauritius is exotic, romantic, welcoming and sunny, making it an ideal choice for your honeymoon!

When to go on a honeymoon in Mauritius?
In Mauritius, you can enjoy a pleasant tropical climate year-round. However, certain periods are better suited than others for a honeymoon.
From May to October, it’s the southern winter: temperatures are pleasantly mild, usually ranging between 20°C and 26°C, with dry and sunny weather. It’s the ideal time of year if you prefer to avoid intense heat and humidity, while still enjoying a calm and crystal-clear ocean.
From November to April, it’s the southern summer: temperatures rise, ranging from 28°C to 33°C, and the weather is hotter and more humid.
It’s also the season of heavy tropical rains, often short but intense. This period is perfect if you enjoy warm weather, lush vegetation, and aren’t bothered by occasional rain showers.
For a Mauritius honeymoon, the months of May, June, September, and October are often recommended, offering the best balance between comfortable temperatures, low humidity, and a more relaxed crowd. That way, you’ll be able to truly enjoy the beaches and sightseeing in a calm and romantic setting.
If you’re looking to add an even more special touch to your trip, you can time your visit to coincide with local events and festivities.
For example, events such as Cavadee in January, Holi in March, or Divali in October offer a vibrant, cultural experience and provide incredible insights into Mauritian traditions.
Additionally, certain times of the year coincide with special offers and promotions at luxury hotels—perfect if you’re looking for an exceptional honeymoon without breaking the bank.

The Best Ecolodges for a Romantic Nature Getaway
I’d love to share a bit of my personal experience here; I chose to spend my honeymoon in an ecolodge in Mauritius: the Otentic Ecotent Experience. And I have to say, it was absolutely amazing!
My husband and I are huge fans of peaceful nature escapes, so this place was simply perfect for us.
The setting itself is magical, nestled between a peaceful river, a lagoon and a lush tropical forest. The vibe is incredibly relaxed—exactly what you need to instantly forget day-to-day stress. And, of course, comfort isn’t forgotten either!
Sure, you’re staying in a tent, but not just any kind: it’s a super spacious and cozy tent, offering all the conveniences of a high-end accommodation. It’s the ideal balance between luxury and nature immersion. We totally loved this laid-back atmosphere, perfect to unwind and reconnect as a couple.
We spent 3 days and 2 nights there and it was complete bliss. Our evenings were spent stargazing, we went kayaking on the river, enjoyed an excursion to Île aux Cerfs (all activities included in the stay price), and of course, we rested a lot!
We loved it so much, we’ve made it a tradition to return regularly for our wedding anniversaries ^^
So if you’re longing for a break from it all, some fresh air, nature, and a place to completely unwind, I wholeheartedly recommend Otentic for an unforgettable honeymoon in Mauritius!

Ile aux Cerfs (East coast) and Ile aux Bénitiers (South-West Coast), for example, offer idyllic landscapes where you can enjoy a private picnic, swim in crystal clear waters and relax on pristine white sand beaches.
Authentic Trip to Ile aux Bénitiers
For a truly authentic and private trip to Ile aux Bénitiers, you should contact my partner guide Michael, a local from La Gaulette, a small village located just opposite the islet.
Michael will warmly welcome you at his home in the morning (around 10 AM), before taking you to Ile aux Bénitiers aboard his traditional pirogue. Once you arrive on the island, you will enjoy a delicious homemade lunch on the beach.
After lunch, you’ll have some free time on the island to take a walk, swim or simply relax. You will return around 3 PM.
To book this exclusive day trip to Ile aux Bénitiers with a local guide, send me a Whatsapp message at +230 59024487, specifying the number of participants, your names and the desired date.

Ile aux Cerfs Catamaran Cruise
Enjoy a dream day on a catamaran from Trou d’Eau Douce to Ile aux Cerfs, navigating through one of Mauritius’ most beautiful lagoons.
The itinerary includes:
- Snorkeling in turquoise waters

Ile aux Aigrettes and Ile d’Ambre
If you’re looking for a more nature-oriented outing, you should take a boat trip to Ile aux Aigrettes (South-East) or Ile d’Ambre (North-East), 2 beautiful protected nature reserves.
Nature Getaway to Ile d’Ambre
The excursion to Ile d’Ambre is done in two-seater kayaks, in small groups led by a local guide who will tell you everything about the flora and fauna of the lagoon and the island.
Your adventure takes you through mangroves and ends with a guided stopover on Ile d’Ambre.
This morning-long kayak trip is really invigorating and perfect if you love nature and adventure.
I’ve tried this excursion myself, so don’t miss my detailed review here: Kayak Tour to Ile d’Ambre – My experience

Guided Visit to Ile aux Aigrettes
You can also plan an excursion to Ile aux Aigrettes, a small protected island in South-East Mauritius. The island can only be visited on guided tours organized by the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation.
You will meet your guide at the Pointe Jerome jetty and board a small motorboat to cross the lagoon and reach the islet in about 10 minutes.
Your guide will then lead you on a walk through the island, where you’ll get to see its remarkable wildlife (fruit bats, giant tortoises, geckos, skinks…) and rare endemic plants that are currently part of conservation projects.
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours, including the round-trip boat transfer.
If you want to explore tropical nature, it’s a wonderful excursion to enjoy with your partner during your honeymoon in Mauritius.
Reservations are mandatory and have to be made in advance, either online (click here) or by phone at +230 52588139.
3. A Seaplane Flight Over the Lagoon
Are you looking for a unique and unforgettable honeymoon experience in Mauritius to celebrate your love?
I have just what you need: a seaplane flight over the island!
I absolutely recommend this experience as a fantastic way to celebrate your union and admire Mauritius island’s beauty from the sky.
There are 2 flight routes to choose from:
Option 1: Flight over the 7 islets in the North
In Mauritius’ North-East, this seaplane tour lets you admire the 7 northern islets and the lagoon’s gorgeous shades of blue.
👉 I’ve personally tested this flight and shared the entire experience here: Seaplane Flight in Northern Mauritius – My Review
Option 2: Romantic Flight Above Le Morne Lagoon and the Underwater Waterfall
In the South-West, this flight for two lets you admire from above the famous underwater waterfall, an incredible natural phenomenon – Click the button below to book:

To experience the underwater waterfall from the sky, you can pick the “Duo” option and enjoy this moment as a couple.
Since the seaplane is small and can only accommodate one passenger plus the pilot, the Duo flight lets you fly side by side at the same time—each in your own seaplane—for an unforgettable experience that you can share together in real time.
If you prefer to take the flight over the 7 Northern islets, you should book 2 successive flights (one after the other).
4. Spend a Night in an Eco-Lodge Immersed in Nature
If you’re looking for a cozy and authentic experience during your honeymoon in Mauritius, why not treat yourselves to one or two nights in an eco-lodge?
Just imagine falling asleep together in a luxury tent by the riverside, staying in a transparent bubble on the beach, or curling up in a charming little wooden cabin deep in the tropical forest.
Several amazing options like Otentic Eco Tent Experience, Lakaz Chamarel, or Bubble Lodge Ile aux Cerfs offer romantic settings away from the hustle and bustle.

Planning Your Honeymoon in Mauritius: Practical Tips
For a perfect romantic stay in Mauritius, here are some practical tips to help you organize your trip:
Budget: How Much Does a Honeymoon in Mauritius Cost?
The budget for your honeymoon in Mauritius will depend on a few factors: the season, the type of accommodation, the activities planned and the little extras that will make your stay even more magical.
On average, for a comfortable one-week honeymoon in a 4 or 5-star hotel, you should budget from 3,500€ to 7,000€, including full-board accommodation and flights.
If you want to spend less on your honeymoon in Mauritius, you can choose an independent accommodation option, such as a seaside villa or apartment.
Traveling outside of school holidays and during low season (May–June and September–October) allows you to benefit from lower prices while still enjoying great weather.
You can read more details about budget and the best time to visit in my dedicated articles:

Entry Requirements and Flights: Everything You Need to Know
To enter Mauritius, European citizens do not need a visa; a valid passport is sufficient. On arrival, you will need to provide proof of your accommodation reservation and return ticket.
Several airlines offer flights to Mauritius from Europe, either nonstop or with stopovers. Flights from Paris take around 11 to 12 hours. To get the best prices, you should book your flight at least 4 months in advance.
Don’t hesitate to request special attention from your airline or hotel if you’re on your honeymoon. Some establishments offer newlyweds room upgrades, candlelit dinners, or complimentary spa treatments. It’s definitely worth a try!

Travel Insurance for Mauritius and Reunion Island: My Advice
To travel to Mauritius and Reunion Island with peace of mind, it’s important to have travel insurance that covers you in case of any problems, particularly in the event of a medical evacuation.
For me, peace of mind when traveling is essential!
Many travelers mistakenly think (and wrongly so) that healthcare in Mauritius is affordable and that they don’t need travel insurance. But in reality, the Mauritian public healthcare system is fragile and even the smallest consultation in a private clinic can be extremely expensive!
That’s why it is crucial to take out travel insurance that offers good medical coverage before you leave.
You can also protect yourself against baggage theft, flight delays and cancellations, and much more!
To travel safely to Mauritius and Reunion Island, I recommend the following two insurance options (both include epidemic coverage – like Covid-19 -, very important!)
To subscribe, it’s very simple, you just need to click on the orange links below:
